Calculators are models

Our calculators apply published formulas and thresholds to the numbers you enter. They cannot account for your pet's full medical history, medications, breed sensitivities, or anything you didn't (or couldn't) enter. Real animals vary; models don't.

Emergencies

If your pet may have ingested something toxic, is having trouble breathing, has collapsed, is having seizures, or is in active labor with complications — stop reading websites. Call your veterinarian, an emergency clinic, the Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661) or ASPCA Animal Poison Control (888-426-4435). Consultation fees apply to the poison lines and are worth it.

Medication tools

Dosing calculators (such as our Benadryl calculator) show published veterinary dosing ranges for a typical healthy adult dog. Age, pregnancy, medical conditions and drug interactions change what is safe. Confirm with your vet before giving any medication for the first time.
