Poodle Lifespan: How Long Do Poodles Live?
Poodles are long-lived at every size: 12 to 15 for standards, 13 to 16 for miniatures and toys. Size decides the health list as much as the years.

How long do Poodles live?
Breed clubs quote 12 to 15 for standards and 13 to 16 for the smaller varieties; UK data put Miniature and Toy Poodles among the longest-lived breeds. Standards age on the large chart, minis and toys on the small chart, which is why a 14-year-old Toy Poodle is younger, biologically, than a 14-year-old Standard.
By variety: Standard Poodle: 12 to 15 years; Miniature Poodle: 13 to 16 years; Toy Poodle: 13 to 16 years.
For context, the size-class ranges we use across all breeds: small dogs 12 to 16 years, medium 10 to 14, large 9 to 12, giant 7 to 10. Individual dogs beat their breed's range all the time; the range is where the odds sit, not a ceiling.
What decides a Poodle's lifespan
Standards: bloat and Addison's
Deep chest brings GDV risk; smaller meals and calm after eating. Addison's disease (adrenal insufficiency) is over-represented: vague, waxing-waning illness with vomiting and weakness deserves an ACTH test.
Standards: sebaceous adenitis and hips
An inflammatory skin disease of the coat glands, plus hip dysplasia. Both screenable in breeding stock.
Minis and toys: teeth and knees
Small-jaw dental disease and luxating patellas. Brush the teeth, keep the weight down, treat skipping on a hind leg.
Minis and toys: eyes and hips
Progressive retinal atrophy is testable. Legg-Calve-Perthes disease of the hip shows as lameness in young toys.
Poodle life stages and human-age equivalents
| Stage | Poodle years | Human years | What matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Puppy | under 1 | 0 to 15 | Growth, vaccines, socialisation window |
| Young adult | 1 to 3 | 15 to 35 | Adult body, teenage brain; habits and weight set now |
| Mature adult | 4 to 10.1 | 35 to 67 | Prime years; annual exams, dental care, lean weight |
| Senior | 10.1 to 15 | 67 to 93 | Twice-yearly exams and bloodwork (AAHA) |
| Golden years | 15+ | 93+ | Past the typical range: comfort first |
Human equivalents use the veterinary size-adjusted chart (large class); the senior threshold is 75% of the breed's mid-range lifespan.

Standard Poodles typically 12 to 15 years; Miniature and Toy Poodles 13 to 16, and 17 or 18 is not rare in the small sizes.

Miniatures and Toys. Smaller dogs age slower after maturity, and the small varieties avoid the bloat and Addison's risk that weighs on standards.
