Goldendoodle Lifespan: How Long Do Goldendoodles Live?
Goldendoodles usually live 10 to 15 years, minis at the long end. They inherit from both parents, so the health list is a blend: Golden cancer risk on one side, Poodle glands and bloat on the other.

How long do Goldendoodles live?
No club life table exists for a cross, so the range is built from the parent breeds: Golden Retrievers 10 to 12, Standard Poodles 12 to 15, Miniature Poodles 13 to 16. Smaller doodles age on the medium chart, standards on the large.
By variety: Standard Goldendoodle: 10 to 15 years; Mini Goldendoodle: 12 to 15 years.
For context, the size-class ranges we use across all breeds: small dogs 12 to 16 years, medium 10 to 14, large 9 to 12, giant 7 to 10. Individual dogs beat their breed's range all the time; the range is where the odds sit, not a ceiling.
What decides a Goldendoodle's lifespan
Cancer risk from the Golden side
Not every doodle inherits it, but the Golden's cancer burden is real enough that monthly lump checks and fast action on lethargy or pale gums are worth the habit.
Joints
Hip and elbow dysplasia appear in both parent breeds. Lean weight and steady exercise; buy from parents with hip and elbow scores.
Poodle-side conditions
Addison's disease, sebaceous adenitis and, in standard-sized dogs, bloat. Vague illness with vomiting and weakness in a young doodle deserves an Addison's test.
Ears and coat
Floppy, hairy ears trap moisture: chronic infections are the most common doodle complaint. Weekly ear checks and regular grooming keep them minor.
Goldendoodle life stages and human-age equivalents
| Stage | Goldendoodle years | Human years | What matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Puppy | under 1 | 0 to 15 | Growth, vaccines, socialisation window |
| Young adult | 1 to 3 | 15 to 35 | Adult body, teenage brain; habits and weight set now |
| Mature adult | 4 to 9.4 | 35 to 63 | Prime years; annual exams, dental care, lean weight |
| Senior | 9.4 to 15 | 63 to 93 | Twice-yearly exams and bloodwork (AAHA) |
| Golden years | 15+ | 93+ | Past the typical range: comfort first |
Human equivalents use the veterinary size-adjusted chart (large class); the senior threshold is 75% of the breed's mid-range lifespan.
Goldendoodle lifespan FAQ
How long do Goldendoodles live?
Typically 10 to 15 years. Mini Goldendoodles tend toward the longer end, standard-sized doodles toward the Golden Retriever's 10 to 12.
Do mini Goldendoodles live longer?
Usually, yes. Smaller dogs age slower after maturity, and the Miniature Poodle parent brings a longer lifespan than the Golden.
Are Goldendoodles healthier than purebreds?
Hybrid vigour is real but modest. A doodle from health-tested Golden and Poodle parents is a good bet; one from untested parents can inherit the worst of both.
At what age is a Goldendoodle a senior?
About 8 for standards and 9 to 10 for minis. Twice-yearly checks and lump checks from then.
