Bernedoodle Lifespan: How Long Do Bernedoodles Live?
Bernedoodles usually outlive their Bernese parent by years, 12 to 15 against the Berner's 7 to 10, because the Poodle side dilutes the cancer risk. Dilutes, not deletes.
How old is your Bernedoodle in human years?
Size-adjusted vet chart, Bernedoodle lifespan range, life stage and a shareable ID card.
How long do Bernedoodles live?
No club data exist for the cross; the range comes from the parents: Bernese Mountain Dog 7 to 10, Standard Poodle 12 to 15, Miniature Poodle 13 to 16. Standard-sized Bernedoodles age on the large chart, minis on the medium.
For context, the size-class ranges we use across all breeds: small dogs 12 to 16 years, medium 10 to 14, large 9 to 12, giant 7 to 10. Individual dogs beat their breed's range all the time; the range is where the odds sit, not a ceiling.
What decides a Bernedoodle's lifespan
Cancer from the Bernese side
Histiocytic sarcoma and other cancers run in Berner lines. A doodle inherits half its genes from that side. Monthly lump checks and fast action on lethargy, limping or weight loss.
Joints
Hip and elbow dysplasia in both parents. Buy from scored parents; keep the dog lean.
Poodle-side conditions
Addison's disease, sebaceous adenitis and, in standard sizes, bloat.
Ears and coat
Heavy coats and floppy ears: infections and matting if grooming lapses.
Bernedoodle life stages and human-age equivalents
| Stage | Bernedoodle years | Human years | What matters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Puppy | under 1 | 0 to 15 | Growth, vaccines, socialisation window |
| Young adult | 1 to 3 | 15 to 35 | Adult body, teenage brain; habits and weight set now |
| Mature adult | 4 to 10.1 | 35 to 67 | Prime years; annual exams, dental care, lean weight |
| Senior | 10.1 to 15 | 67 to 93 | Twice-yearly exams and bloodwork (AAHA) |
| Golden years | 15+ | 93+ | Past the typical range: comfort first |
Human equivalents use the veterinary size-adjusted chart (large class); the senior threshold is 75% of the breed's mid-range lifespan.

How long do Bernedoodles live?
Typically 12 to 15 years. Mini Bernedoodles tend toward the longer end; standards toward 12 to 13.

About 8 for standards, 9 to 10 for minis.
